Fearless Freshman! Takes 5th at Albion Invitational
MCC Jayhawk Freshman Battles to Fifth Place Finish Against Four-Year Programs at Albion Invitational
November 18, 2025
MUSKEGON, MI — The Muskegon Community College (MCC) women's wrestling program faced a major test this weekend, sending its athletes to compete at the highly competative Albion Invitational. The tournament field was predominantly comprised of women's programs from NCAA and NCWA four-year universities, providing an excellent proving ground for the young Jayhawk squad.
Leading the charge for MCC was freshman Isabelle Wisenbaugh, who secured a fifth-place finish in her bracket, scoring a significant 14.5 team points. Wisenbaugh showed she was ready for the higher level of competition by securing two dominant victories via fall.
Wisenbaugh started her day strong in the Championship Round 1, quickly pinning Madison Wagner of East Stroudsburg University in just 38 seconds. After a tough quarterfinal decision loss to Grace McMahon of Indiana University Club (8-5), Wisenbaugh recovered admirably in the consolation bracket.
The freshman secured her path to the medal rounds with a commanding 10-0 tech fall win over Sierra Zamorano from Purdue University Club. Though her run for the Consolation Final was stopped by Mackenzie Konanz of Albion College, Wisenbaugh finished her tournament on a high note.
In the 5th Place Match, Wisenbaugh delivered another impressive performance, pinning Zamaria Hemingway of Grand Valley State University Club in 2:29 to solidify her place on the podium. Her ability to bounce back and close the tournament with a win highlights a promising competitive spirit for the Jayhawks.
"Competing against four-year schools is always a challenge, but it is exactly the type of experience we want for our athletes," said head coach, Casey Baranoski. "Isabelle's performance shows that our program can compete at a high level. She earned every one of those wins, and we are incredibly proud of her composure and results."
Jazmyne Tyszko battled hard and placed 8th in a tough field. "Jazz is continuing to develop. She and the rest of the girls (Korin Mitchell and Eve Sepulveda) are learning to scrap at the college level. I'm really proud of the progress Jazz is making in terms of grit," continued Baranoski.
The MCC Women's Wrestling team looks forward to building on this momentum as they compete in the Great Lakes Duals at Harper College.
