MCC Women's Wrestling Makes History!
Wisenbaugh Crowned First-Ever Jayhawk Champion in Inaugural Event
MUSKEGON, MI – November 2, 2025 – The Muskegon Community College (MCC) Women's Wrestling team officially launched its program with a strong performance at the Ben McMullen Open on Saturday, November 1, 2025, marking a significant and historic day for Jayhawks Athletics. The team, competing in its inaugural event, celebrated its first-ever tournament champion and had several athletes showcase exceptional skill against collegiate competition.
The highlight of the day was the dominant performance of freshman Isabelle Wisenbaugh, who became the program's first-ever champion by winning the 180-pound weight class. Wisenbaugh earned the title with two decisive victories by pinfall, demonstrating incredible strength and technique. Her path to gold included pins over Isabel Zabronsky of the University of Michigan Club Team and Angel Miller of Southwest Michigan College.
"We couldn't be prouder of the foundation these young women are laying for this program," said Head Coach, Cassandra Baranoski. "Isabelle's performance was nothing short of dominant. To come out and claim the program's first championship in our very first tournament shows the level of talent and commitment she brings. This is a moment we'll all remember."
Also delivering a podium finish was Eva Sepulveda, who placed second in her weight class. Sepulveda secured a key victory by pinning Sophia Figueroa from Grand Valley State University (GVSU). At 131 pounds, Korin Mitchell also contributed to the team's strong showing, wrestling hard in a deep field and gaining valuable experience that will serve the team throughout the season.
"This is a special group…a really important group of girls. They are starting something here. On the men's side, this program has a storied past. These girls have their own stories to tell and their own traditions to start. I'm excited for them," continued Baranoski. "They are working hard and learning a lot. I can't wait to see how far they'll take this new program."
