Jayhawks Pull Away Late to Defeat Montcalm, 63–56
MUSKEGON, Mich. — The Muskegon Community College women’s basketball team earned a hard-fought 63–56 victory over Montcalm Community College behind a balanced offensive effort and strong work on the glass.
Anna Lundquist led the Jayhawks with a game-high 19 points while controlling the paint, finishing with 15 rebounds and three blocks. Kamrin Ward posted a double-double of her own, recording 14 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, and three steals to anchor Muskegon on both ends of the floor.
Muskegon shot 37.3 percent from the field and knocked down eight three-pointers, with Paige Seely-London connecting on four triples for 12 points. Off the bench, Ellis Williams provided a big spark, scoring nine points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from beyond the arc.
The Jayhawks dominated the rebounding battle, 42–34, and turned second-chance opportunities into key points down the stretch. Despite committing 18 turnovers, Muskegon limited Montcalm to 30.4 percent shooting and just 50 percent from the free-throw line.
Montcalm was led by Emma Rehkopf's 18 points off the bench and Baylor Syrjala's 15 points, but the Jayhawks' defensive pressure and interior presence proved to be the difference late in the contest.
Muskegon improves its momentum heading into its next stretch of conference play as the Jayhawks continue to build consistency on both ends of the floor.
