Jayhawks Open Indoor Track & Field Season with Record Performances at Wolverine In
ANN ARBOR, MI — Muskegon Community College officially opened the indoor track and field season this weekend after receiving an invite to compete at the Wolverine Invite hosted by University of Michigan.
The weekend was highlighted by two school record performances and a handful of early national marks, signaling a strong start to the season for the Jayhawks.
Sophomore Deon Taylor delivered a standout performance in the 60 meters, breaking the school record with a time of 6.84 seconds. That mark currently ranks #7 in the country across all NJCAA divisions and earned Taylor a 4th-place finish in the finals, beating out a combined six NCAA Division I and 11 NCAA Division II and NAIA competitors. An exceptional performance on a highly competitive stage.
On the women's side, Tatum Dykstra continued her dominance from the cross country season by setting a new school record in the 3000 meters. Her performance currently ranks #4 nationally among all NJCAA divisions.
Additional standout marks included Anthony Kiaunis, who ran 1:57 in the 800 meters, a time currently good for #12 in the country, and Jamari Taylor, who recorded a throw of 14.25 meters in the men's weight throw, ranking #4 nationally across all NJCAA divisions.
The Jayhawks will return to action at the Sean Brady Invite on Saturday, January 17, hosted by Trine University in Indiana.
