Jayhawks fell short to the Kirtland Firebirds

The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks fell to the Kirtland Community College Firebirds in conference play Saturday evening 74-69. The game was a tale of two halves, but both teams shared the same story. The first half was a tightly contested affair, where both teams struggled offensively to gain traction. The Jayhawks shot 33.3% from the field and just 18.2% from behind the arc. They were led offensively by sophomore Ny'Zhem Marshall, who poured in 11 points and snagged five rebounds through the first 20 minutes of play. The Jayhawks managed to hold the Firebirds to just 28 points in the first half. The Firebirds shot just 33.3% from the field.
Both teams managed to find cracks in the defense in the second half, but the Firebirds finished strong, outscoring MCC 46-42 in the second half to claim the conference victory. Freshman guard Darryl Thompkins led the Jayhawks in scoring with 20 points. Marshall finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Joel Katembo chipped 10 points and five rebounds.
The Jayhawks will face off in conference play against the Delta Ducks next Wednesday, February 4th at Delta Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
