Muskegon Community College Jayhawks Defeats Mott Community College
The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks defeated the Mott Community College Bears 73-67 at the Ballenger Fieldhouse in Flint, Michigan Saturday night.
The Jayhawks struggled to be effective on offense in the first half, but were airtight on the defensive end, holding the Bears to just 27 points through the first 20 minutes of play. The Jayhawks led 36-27 heading into the break.
The second half featured much of the same offensively for the Jayhawks, but the Bears found more traction offensively. Thanks to an impressive team defensive performance, Muskegon managed to close out the game and keep the Bears at bay, winning by a slim margin of just six points
Freshman point guard Darryl Thompkins led the way for the Jayhawks offensively finishing the game with 22 points and four assists. Sophomores Lamarkis Graham and Ny'Zhem Marshall chipped in with 12 points each. Freshman forward Landyn Smith ended with a near double-double contributing nine points and snagging 11 rebounds in just 22 minutes of play.
The win pushes the Jayhawks record to 5-6. The Jayhawks have a long break to rest and recover, but on January 3rd they will face-off against the Grand Rapids Community College Raiders at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
