The Jayhawks Fell Short to Kellogg Community College Bruins
December 16, 2025
The Jayhawks fell to a red-hot Kellogg Community College Bruins team 85-80 at Muskegon Community College Tuesday night. The first half featured tough shot-making from Kellogg's Damion Green-Richardson who hit four three-pointers before the halftime buzzer. But strong offensive rebounding from the Jayhawks and a strong first-half off the bench from freshman Landyn Smith and freshman Darryl Thompkins meant that the Bruins only led 42-36 heading into the break.
Most of the second half was all Muskegon, and the Jayhawks even led 73-63 with just seven minutes left to play. Unfortunately, the Bruins managed to string together numerous defensive stops – eventually taking a six-point lead 82-76 with just a minute left in regulation. The Jayhawks managed to answer with a quick two-pointer but could not close the gap in time.
Sophomore Lamarkis Graham led the Jayhawks in scoring, finishing with 19 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Darryl Thompkins added 14 points off the bench. Freshmen Landyn Smith and David Cross added 13 points apiece.
The loss pushed the Jayhawks record to 4-6. The Jayhawks hope to improve their record on Saturday, December 20th at Mott Community College in a face-off against the Bears. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
