Jayhawks Start the 2025-2026 Campaign with an Emphatic Win

The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks started their 2025-2026 campaign off with a bang on Wednesday night in the new Health and Wellness Center venue. The Jayhawks defeated Kuyper College JV (Black) by a final score of 129-72.
The Jayhawks came out swinging in the first half, scoring on 61.7% of their field goal attempts and scoring 64 points before the half time buzzer sounded. The Jayhawks managed to hold the Kuyper JV Cougars to just 38 points.
The second half held much of the same, as the Jayhawks went on to best their first half performance, pouring in 65 points in the last 20 minutes of play. 11 different Jayhawks managed to land in the scoring column, and six different Jayhawks finished with ten points or more.
Sophomore big Ny'Zhem Marshall led the pack, finishing with an outrageous 27 points on 76% shooting, adding 14 rebounds and two steals. Freshman guard Darryl Thompkins had an electric college debut finishing with 23 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Sophomore forward Joel Katembo accumulated a double-double of his own, scoring 12 points and snagging ten rebounds.
Other notable scorers include Lamarkis Graham (13 points), David Cross (12 points), and Jamarion Taylor - who was flawless from the field, scoring 11 points and connecting on all five of his field goal attempts.
The Jayhawks impressive win moves their record to 1-0. The Jayhawks next test will be against an impressive program in St. Clair County Community College. The Jayhawks face-off against the St. Clair Skippers at St. Clair on Saturday, November 8th at 3:00 PM.
